Another sunny morning, and Glenda drops me off right where I popped out from the character building detour of yesterday.
The initial miles are all very flowy single track, with a fair bit of climbing on well designed trails as I can ride even with the load.  A good number of uphill switchbacks, but all but one rideable. Mt Fernie ski area is peeking through the trees at many spots. With 6 bowls and 2500 acres, it is a sizable resort.

I did run into another short trail closure but was easy to route around on dirt roads.

Flowers are out more and more on the trip. The wild roses are starting to show their hips, and the thimble berries fields are starting to have pinkish fruit on some. In a few weeks these trails will be a bear buffet line. I will undoubtedly go through mountain country with ripe berries on my tour, but more likely on roaded areas and not the close confines and short line of sight of the single track route

So I am singing away my little bear aware jingles, as I have been for days. Must work as I see no bears when singing. I did see a younger black bear yesterday on a rough road, but then I was not singing.
The same jingle gets a little old, so I start singing them with the worst Bob Dylan voice, which is the best I can muster.

The single track had me averaging  may 5.5 to 6 mph. It eventually gives way to 2 track and then roads proper and my rate does climb up.
My knee holds out today, still sore around camp. It appears I have hyperextended it a bit, but biking never straightens the knee. I will endeavour to treat it nice over the next few days and hope for  goodness.

Tomorrow the high is expected to be 94 in the Tobacco Valley. I should get going earlier!

  1. Nice pics, keep em coming.

    Hope your knee mends.

Your singing always scared me away also :)
