Today was spent for the greater part on the 80+ mile Elk Valley Trail (EVT), a patch work of trails and logging roads. Some roads are active, some in areas logged just a few years ago, and some, yes, receding into some nice forest and meadows, retreating until they are single track. This leads to a wide variety of trails, which are shown below.

Did pass some beautiful areas, juxtaposed with the industrial forestry.
Did pass a fair number of rivers and streams, including a sulphur springs whose color was as unusual as it smell.
The detoured off the EVT for a couple miles stretch on to the hwy to avoid a large coal strip mine (remember the huge green dump truck?)
This brought me to a 6 mile stretch of paved back roads via the lower Elk River Rd. Wonderful bucolic country to peddle through, saw maybe on vehicle per mile.

Crazy trails. Looks like a few head bangers with the overhanging trees
ReplyDeleteShould have took a pic of the one I had to break a bunch of branches to get under one and over another
